We have just sent out an important update on forthcoming changes to firing work at the studio - including increased fair use volumes for all levels of membership, heat mapped Volumator pricing and your all important Christmas Firing Deadlines.

Firing Prices:
• Pots smaller than 20 cm: £1.30 per litre.
• Pots between 20-40 cm: £1.65 per litre.
• Pots between 40-60 cm: £2.05 per litre.
This covers your bisc and glaze firing as well as the associated kiln servicing, loading and unloading costs and use of the house glazes.
HOW TO USE:
Measure your pots on the Volumator by counting the number of squares your pot covers at its widest points and multiplying this by the tallest height band your pot stretches into.
example if your pot covers a footprint of 2 squares, and reaches the second height band this would be 2 × 2 meaning a quantity of 4 litres are entered for checkout.
If your pot stretches over one of the lines marked with orange tape (and shown on the colour coded diagram in the second image on this page, it has fallen into the next pricing tier, meaning that the full volume (both within the orange and lines and beyond) is then chargeable at the mid or high rate.
example you have a 30 cm long, 12cm wide and 2 cm tall rectangular plate. This has a dimension which falls between 20-40cm and therefore is charged at the mid tier rate of £1.55 per litre. In this case it would be a total of 6 litres so 6 x £1.55 = £9.30 total firing charge.

Decorating slips can be blended to produce your own custom colours.
Use them for techniques such as inlay, sgraffito and paper resist.
For further suggestions take a look at “Techniques Using Slips” by John Mathieson - an excellent reference book which will give you lots of inspiration and technical guidance.
Return you container for refill and get a discount on your purchase.
For best results: stir well and apply to leather hard clay, allow to dry before applying extra coats.
Must have appropriate glaze, correctly applied on top of the bisc ware to be functional.
May cause crazing with some glazes if applied to thickly.
Do not eat or drink while using and avoid contact where possible. Use good workshop hygiene practices. Wash hands after use.

Sea green gives range from khaki green to light blue green where thicker.
Always test for the thickness and results you want before applying to final work. The majority of the time we see issues with brush on glaze is when they are applied too thinly.
Stir well and apply 3 coats onto bisc for best results. Use good workshop hygiene practices and do not eat or drink while using. Avoid contact if possible and wash hands after use. Wash brushes and containers in clean water.

Primary colours Red, Blue and Yellow, plus black and white available. Bendable to create your own custom colours.
To get solid colour apply 3 even coats allowing drying between each coat.

For best true colour representation apply to bisc and use the studio transparent glaze on top. Will also give a variety of affects when used underneath other dipping or brushing glazes.

Book a 7 day window for when your work will be fired. Helpful when planning for exhibitions or shop openings.
Glaze or bisc should be specified (if both are required it would need separate fast track bookings, for consecutive weeks).
Work should still be measured and paid for on the Volumator as per normal. This will still count toward your monthly firing allowance as appropriate to your level of membership.
Please notify a staff member when you start putting pots aside for Fast Track Firing - we will keep these on their own board so they can be prioritised for the kiln.
Pack of 6 test tiles, pre bisc’d to speed up your testing workflow. Available in any of the studio stock clays including B17c White Stoneware, V9A Buff Stoneware, Crank, Black clay and porcelain - please specify which clays you would like on collection.

These are designed to pack densely into the kiln, on 45 degree test tile cranks which the studio has made.
They have 1 textured side to see how your glaze responds to different surfaces, and 1 fully blank side for easy labelling.
Thanks to the standardised efficient design we can include the cost of firing (they will not count toward your volume cap and do not need to be volumated).
Please note - only test tiles purchased through the members shop can skip the volumator. Any tiles which are made individually by members - to similar or differing designs will need to be volumated in the same way as any other work.

Khaki grey satin gives a soft greenish grey neutral which will show some mottle and variation where thicker.
