Nova Smith supports the team at events and tackles the grit and grime of studio life at weekends. The rest of the time she’s developing her creative practice and practical skills.

Nova recently completed a Foundation Diploma (Art and Design) at Leeds Arts University and is now off to study Jewellery, Materials and Design at Sheffield Hallam University.

Nova explores processes in wood and metal to handcraft detailed objects. She likes a good battle, she’s analytical, meticulous and scrutinises material combinations. She applies the same rigour to her work with Sunken Studio. Proactive and diligent, she’s definitely one to watch.

We’ve asked Nova to complete some questionable tasks: sanding the notches off lego, blunting fresh scalpels, and stitching the blunted scalpels to the notch-less lego. We love that Nova knew, without question, they were legitimate and important tool making tasks!
