Our New Course Structure and a Little Extra

It’s time for a change. Our course structure needed a bit of revamp and we went back to the drawing board - AKA the kitchen table.

All multi-week studio courses are now 10 hours long across 4 weekly sessions. All courses are now assigned a level (0-3) to help make selecting courses, and planning personal programmes of study, easier. At the moment we’re focusing on levels 0, 1 and 2. It’s likely that 2 will be developed further in 2021 and level 3 will be introduced in 2021.

We’ve decided to make courses much more focused to help build your confidence within a particular technique and to make space for more creative content and glazing. We felt that we were trying to cover too much and there was never enough time to really get to grips with something.

There are lots of demands on this year’s timetable. We’re hoping there will be more choices next year.

Level 0 - absolute beginner with no prerequisites.

Level 1 - beginner with prerequisites.

Level 2 - improver with prerequisites (more in 2021).

Level 3 - experienced creatives and makers (2021).

E-Courses

We’ve introduced digital courses too. Many will be suitable for home-based study but our intention is to make them available to members who wish to follow the programmes at the studio.

Our digital courses include demonstrations, tutorials, presentations and briefs. All structured into manageable chunks for your to complete at home, or if you are a session or studio member, at the studio. There’s enough content to keep you occupied for 10-20 hours.

Unfired works cannot be posted back to the studio - pieces will not survive. Home-based students must make at least one journey to drop-off work. Supported e-courses will include everything you need to complete the course and a polybox to store work in progress and transport work to the studio safely.

You will receive a polybox, clay, whirler, samples and the tools to make tools. The polybox and whirler are loan items. They are returned with your finished pieces and exchanged for firing services, glazing services and postage of completed works. Access to e-courses is managed through an e-learning platform and time-limited.
